Overview
Budget Hearing
The Board of Representatives (“BOR”) of the Student Bar Association (“SBA”) oversees the distribution of funding to ensure all recognized student organizations have the resources needed to host impactful events and activities for the campus community. The Budget Hearing generally occurs within the first 4 weeks of the semester.Â
1. Complete and Submit the Budget Packet
- All student organizations requesting funding from the SBA must complete the Proposed Budget Packet that is sent to all student organization leaders by the Executive Board.
- Carefully follow all instructions within the packet before submission.
- The completed packet must be submitted to BOR Chair’s designated BOR chair email address.
- The submission deadline is announced to the org leaders before the start of each semester. Generally, late submissions will not be considered or granted extensions.
2. Sign Up for a Budget Hearing
- Once the org’s Budget Packet is successfully submitted, they will receive a link to sign up for a budget hearing time slot on a first-come, first-served basis.
- A finalized hearing schedule will be distributed by the BOR Chair after all proposals are received.
- Organizations may choose to opt out of attending the hearing, but a budget packet must still be submitted if you are requesting funds for the semester.
3. Prepare for the Hearing
- Meet with your organization’s board ahead of time to discuss your planned events and proposed budget so you are fully prepared.
- Select a knowledgeable organization representative who is best equipped to answer questions regarding your proposed events and financial needs.
- Direct all budget-related questions and discussions to the official BOR chair email.
4. Decision-Making and Oversight
- SBA Executive Board members do not participate in the decision-making process for final budget allocations.
- Executive Board members may attend the hearings solely to ensure they are conducted in accordance with the SBA bylaws and constitution.
- The BOR Chair and/or Vice Chair will issue a determination letter and a memorandum to each student organization that participated in the SBA Budget Hearing.
